Melpomene

Songs are pretty useful to improve one's level of English. You aquire language items while enjoying yourself.  This time, I'd like to share this beautiful piece of art from Kashmir.

Please, listen once while reading the lyrics. Do NOT use dictionary, just read, listen and enjoy  :)

Now, reflect about this:

  • Is the singer happy? is he sad?
  • Who is Melpomene?  (Look for it on google.)
  • When he says she is his Melpomene, what does he mean? Do you have somebody who is your Melpomene?

We have some expressions which aren't literal. Lets check them.

...and we hit the kerb...
  • What is a kerb?
  • What would happen if you were driving happily and then you hit the kerb?

...to drown the fact in wine...

  • What does it mean to drown something?
  • Is there a similar expression in Mexico?
  • When do people usually do this?
  • Do you think it's a good thing to do?

Listen the song again.

Did your opinion about the message changed?

Has something like this ever happened to you? Tell us, please! :)
